A New Life Direction

This post is barely related to the blog theme, but I want to explain why I will be posting even more sporadically than usual for the next few months.  I have *gulp* gone back to college!

Now at my age some people go back to college to get their Master's Degree or a second degree or whatever.   Me, I am a freshmen!  (I have only one previous semester of college back in the '90's)

Why did I wait so long to do this?  The short version of the story is that Life Happened.   It seems like either you jump on it right out of high school before Real Life takes over or Real Life will come knocking at your door and take no prisoners.   That's how it was for me.  So between four children, jobs, bills, mortgages, spouse's education and career, etc., the time and money have just never been there - at least not both at the same time.

Money still isn't there, but I do have the time so I enrolled FULL TIME to go for my degree.   This blog will be the first place I come if I have to (OMG!) sell one or more of my vintage sewing machines to help pay for tuition.  But this semester is taken care of so I'm going to do this one step at a time and cross that bridge when I get to it.

I wanted a visual for this post, and the only thing I could think of is to show some of my various purse and tote bag projects.  It only fits in because I got a compliment on the homemade bag I was carrying yesterday - and not because they knew I had made it, they just liked it (and were surprised to find out it was a DIY).  Yes, the "cool girls" liked my homemade tote bag!  :)

So in no particular order are a few pics.  Many of these I have posted on PR, so members there might have seen them already.
Made entirely from remnants I already had and a 50 cent thrift store pattern :)

Gift to DS's girlfriend, he picked out the fabric himself

Mainly like this one for the vintage ribbon that exactly matched the fabric

Gift to DIL1

Sorry, its blurry.   Matching wallet for bag above

Another blurry one....gift for  DIL2

Gift for DIL3 (are you counting!) She chose the fabric for this diaper bag.  She LOVES this thing.

Yes, sometimes I even crochet a bag.  I love bags!

Well, that's all for today, folks.  I'll be around, especially when I've been studying too much and turn to my sewing for a break!

  2. Good for you!! Best of luck. It's so much better going to college as an adult. The professors like having older students. I was an older student, and it was the best time!
